AMR robots not just for transporting products
Finding opportunities for logistics automation
A race focused on production of aluminium extruded profiles daily Realized many manualych and time-consumingernal and time-consuming transportov. All transports – whether heavy tools, small samples or ancillary material – were provided by the staff. Movements between production halls and laboratories were lengthy and without added value for the production process itself. The analysis revealed that skilled personnel spent a significant amount of working fromcurrency by performing routine activities that would be more efficiently handled by automation.
Skilled workers - elimination of routine activities
The basic problem was wastage of time and professional capacity. Instead of technical and professional work, the staff carried out repeated transfers of material and samples. In addition, the plant lack of human resourcesthat would be dedicated to these monotonous but time-consuming activities. Handling miniature samples and special instruments represented an additional complication.
Different AMR robots for different logistics tasks
After an initial phase of testing in two halls, the a pair of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) were deployed:
- AMR robot with low stroke provides transport of small pallets of samples between machining and 3D measurement.
- AMR with higher stroke and higher load capacity (up to 1.4 t) is used to transport heavy tools between the tool room and the production machines.
Part of the solution was also adaptation of handling units – specifically to the design of the pallets – so that the robots could handle the safe and accurate handling even smaller objects such as aluminium profiles for measuring.
Key benefits of logistics automation
The deployment of AMR robots achieved the following results:
- Significant time reduction required for transporting samples and instruments.
- 20 to 30 transports per shift is no longer a burden for human operators.
- Elimination of unproductive tasks – Increased worker performance and efficiency.
Professional staff can devote their full attention to skilled tasks, while routine and repetitive transports are automated.
Unique features: a solution that is constantly evolving
Cooperation does not end with implementation. The customer regularly makes fine adjustments to which the system adapts flexibly. Automation in this case goes beyond the usual handling of large pallets – robots are also efficient for precision work with small samples and special tools.
Given the positive results and the solution used the plant can extend the use of AMR technology to other workplaces. The solution is built to grow with the customer’s needs and can adapt to even the smallest operational details.
